Alicia Morin, CD(DONA)
I currently reside in Portland, Oregon with my husband and three wonderful children. I consider myself fortunate to have had great support from family and friends during the birth experiences of my own three children.
I had the privilege of attending my first birth over fourteen years ago, long before I discovered the doula business. Since then, I have had many opportunities to provide support for friends, family and clients. I began to see this as a passion and a calling in my life. I chose to become a doula due to my desire to help women during their pregnancy and birth.
I attended doula training and received my certification through DONA (Doulas of North America) in 2003. I have since attended over 60 births as a doula. My professional experience includes: vaginal, cesarean, un-medicated, medicated, labor induction, vacuum/forceps delivery, water birth, and VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean).
My experience as a doula led me to pursue working as a Medical Assistant in an OB/Gyn office, serving women during their prenatal visits. I enjoy both aspects of my professional careers, as they are both different, but very rewarding.
As part of my continuing education, I served as one of two leaders of PDX Doulas (2003—2006), a hospital based labor-support program at OHSU Hospital. As a leader of PDX Doulas I helped to provide educational training to new doulas, hospital staff, and expectant parents. In 2003, I attended the American Baby Breastfeeding Conference for Childbirth Educators. Recently I have mentored several new doulas after their initial doula training.
